Hexprotect MAX R: Hexagonal insulated floating cover

Our hexagonal insulated floating cover: Hexprotect MAX R

AN INSULATED FLOATING HEXAGONAL COVER FOR DEMANDING APPLICATIONS

AWTT INC.’s patented Hexprotect® Max R Insulated Floating Cover System represents a breakthrough in liquid storage protection technology, developed through comprehensive research and engineering innovation. This advanced system delivers superior thermal insulation performance with an R-value exceeding 17, while maintaining cost-effectiveness and exceptional wind resistance characteristics critical for industrial applications.

The system has proven particularly valuable in addressing complex liquid storage challenges across multiple sectors of water and wastewater management. Municipal treatment facilities, industrial processing plants, and petrochemical operations have successfully implemented this solution to enhance their operational efficiency. The cover system’s versatility extends to specialized applications including leachate containment facilities, airport stormwater management systems, and raw water reservoirs. Beyond its primary insulation capabilities, the Hexprotect® Max R system effectively prevents photosynthetic growth, maintains consistent liquid temperatures, and serves as a robust deterrent to wildlife intrusion, making it an integral component in modern liquid storage infrastructure.

The Hexprotect® Max R insulated cover system achieves up to 95% coverage, creating a robust thermal insulation barrier. This barrier is enhanced by the synergy between the high insulation factor of polyurethane foam encased within each tile and the low thermal conductivity of the plastic material. Even though the small air pockets between the tiles are not sealed, they contribute significantly to the insulation system, effectively reducing heat loss and light transmission. Additionally, this cover minimizes liquid loss through evaporation and mitigates odor issues, providing a comprehensive solution for liquid storage management.

Unlike traditional covers, the Hexprotect® Max R does not impede static, moving, or dipping equipment. The tiles can be effortlessly maneuvered aside, allowing the cover to dynamically adjust and reform as the basin and obstacles change, such as in a clarifier. The tiles adapt seamlessly to fluctuations in liquid levels, rising, lowering, and restacking as necessary.

Furthermore, Hexprotect® Max R serves as an effective wildlife deterrent. When the water body is fully covered, it becomes unrecognizable to waterfowl and other wildlife like deer, thus preventing unwanted interactions.

In contrast to netting solutions, Hexprotect® Max R insulated covers are resilient against damage from ice or snow and do not require additional support structures. Manufactured from high-density polyethylene, these covers are engineered for durability with an expected service life of 25 years. The insulating component consists of environmentally friendly, long-lasting soy-based polyurethane foam, underscoring our commitment to both performance and sustainability in the water and wastewater treatment industry.

Technical specifications

Hexprotect® tiles are made of virgin or recycled, high density polyethylene HDPE (FDA (3) and NSF approved HDPE resins available for special applications). The cover self ballasts, increasing its weight more than 260%, making it suitable for high wind applications. Furthermore, the proprietary features and manufacturing process ensures the cover floats with slightly more than 50% of its shell above water. Compared to other hexagonal tile covers, the Hexprotect® cover is often cheaper to ship and offers improved wind resistance. Installation remains extremely simple, and simply consists of unloading the product directly onto the liquid.
