Hexprotect SLIM: slim Hexagonal floating cover
Our thin hexagonal floating cover: Hexprotect SLIM
A THIN FLOATING HEXAGONAL COVER FOR DEMANDER APPLICATIONS
AWTT INC.’s Hexprotect® Slim floating hexagonal cover system is the culmination of extensive research, offering an affordable and wind-resistant solution for covering liquid surfaces. These hexagonal floating covers effectively address challenges in municipal and industrial wastewater storage, tailing dams, treatment processing facilities, metal and petrochemical plants, leachate ponds, airports, raw water reservoirs, and other environments where heat retention, photosynthesis prevention, or wildlife deterrence is required. Engineered for reliable performance and straightforward installation, the Hexprotect® Slim system delivers durable coverage that requires virtually no maintenance, making it an ideal choice for a wide variety of water and wastewater applications.
The Hexprotect® Slim floating cover system delivers up to 99% surface coverage, forming a remarkably effective thermal insulation barrier. This barrier leverages both the air encapsulated within each tile and the naturally low heat conductivity of plastic. Although the small air pockets between tiles are not fully sealed, they still contribute to the overall insulation, significantly reducing heat loss and minimizing light penetration. As a result, liquid loss through evaporation is reduced, and odor issues are controlled more efficiently.
Unlike traditional covers, the Hexprotect® Slim hexagonal floating cover does not hinder static, moving, or dipping equipment. The individual tiles are easily displaced and naturally reassemble to accommodate changes in the basin or clarifier configuration. They also adapt to shifts in water level by rising, lowering, and re-stacking themselves, ensuring consistent, reliable coverage throughout various operational conditions.
In addition, Hexprotect® Slim floating covers function as an effective wildlife deterrent. When fully deployed, they render the body of water unrecognizable to waterfowl and larger animals such as deer, substantially reducing the likelihood of wildlife-related issues.
Compared to netting, Hexprotect® Slim floating covers are also less susceptible to damage from ice or snow and do not require additional support structures. This robust design ensures a dependable, low-maintenance solution in a variety of climates.
However, it is crucial to note that like other thin, injection-molded, segmented floating covers in the industry, Hexprotect® Slim is best suited for smaller surface areas. Despite extensive research and product refinement, this design is less wind-resistant than the Hexprotect® AQUA or Rhombo Hexoshield models. The taller side walls of those alternatives provide superior stability in medium to high wind conditions and in applications with significant liquid movement. Ultimately, the foremost objective of any floating cover is to maximize surface coverage, and every design consideration should be directed toward achieving optimal, long-term performance.

Reinforced shell
Hexprotect AQUA are manufactured using high density polyethelene sourced from top tiers manufacturers. The thickness of the shell is between 40% and 120% thicket than competitor's products.

Technical specifications
Hexprotect® tiles are made of virgin or recycled, high density polyethylene HDPE (FDA (3) and NSF approved HDPE resins available for special applications). The cover self ballasts, increasing its weight more than 260%, making it suitable for high wind applications. Furthermore, the proprietary features and manufacturing process ensures the cover floats with slightly more than 50% of its shell above water. Compared to other hexagonal tile covers, the Hexprotect® cover is often cheaper to ship and offers improved wind resistance. Installation remains extremely simple, and simply consists of unloading the product directly onto the liquid.
